The Nepean, Midget A "Stallions" are very proud to announce the recognition of 3 members of our coaching staff by the NMHA for their efforts and the many - MANY - volunteer hours they have contributed to the kids & the league.

Congratulations to our Head Coaches - Jack Ruyter & Sandy Lang , along with our part -time trainer, full-time director - Kim Johnson.

Record Snowfall can't stop this Nepean Team !

Nepean Midget B Hurricanes won the B-Side of the NEWMAN OLIVER & MCCARTEN HOUSE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT this past weekend !

Not all players were able to attend, but 12 out of 17 players were able to pull off a B Championship after playing 6 games in two days from various locations such as New Market, Kingston, and Otonobee.

I would like to thank all players, parents, and team staff that were able to travel through the worst snow storm of the season for what turned out to be a great weekend for everyone.

I am very proud to be a part of this team, well done guys.

Have you Hugged a NMHA Midget Volunteer Lately?

Thinking ahead to the 2008-2009 season, it has been suggested that it might be helpful to put forth an approximate number of hours that volunteers, put into pulling together the teams for the Midget division. If you've never been involved in this "behind the scenes" action at the beginning of the year, we hope this will give you an appreciation for the time put into getting the season underway.........

NMA-D FINALISTS in Hamilton Select Tournament !

The NMHA, Midget A "Stallions" travelled to southern Ontario and took part in the 2008 Dofasco Select Tournament , Feb 16-18.

The team came out strong on Saturday and won the first two games in the competition over the hometown Steelhawks (6-1) and a team from Thornhill (2-0). Their hard work and low penalty minutes sent them into the Championship rounds with the spot of "First Overall "- the reward being that they could sleep in the next day !

On Sunday the boys returned to play a very strong "Chedoke Express" team, who had won a game the previous day with a score of 12-0. The boys played an amazing team game and matched both skating & scoring - finally sinking the go ahead goal late in the third and then stayed in the other teams end so that they did not have the opportunity to pull their goalie as a clock counted down. Final score in the semi-final was 3-2.

The Championship game was played against the team from the Mountain Hockey League, who had been ranked second overall in the first rounds. The two teams were very evenly matched and there was no scoring at all until the late third period. Down by just the one goal, and running out of time the Stallions did their best to get the match tied up, but the Mountain team locked down their defence to hold onto their 1-0 lead until the buzzer sounded.

Congratulations to the boys & Coaches for a great effort , to Scott Ritchie for being selected the Game MVP in the Final and thanks to the parents & fans for braving the weather and making it a weekend to remember.

Midget B Wolves Win B Side Final

January 26th- Maxville

Great goaltending couldn't make up for the slow start in the first game of the tournament which resulted in a 3-1 loss to Kanata. After this initial set back the Wolves regrouped and came out with renewed energy and determination to win their second game. They worked as a team and set up some fantastic plays providing the "fans" a great game to watch. Each player worked extremely hard; their collective efforts translated into a hard fought 4-2 victory over Canterbury. Commencing the B side finals, the Wolves were reduced to a roster of 10 players due to various injuries accumulated throughout the day but once again they all elevated their game and played hard to get the win. Congratulations Wolves on a well deserved victory and to Shayne Morris for winning the shooting accuracy event in the skills competition.

Another B Side Win for Nepean Warriors

Almonte January 26, 2008

Playing in the Almonte tournament was like being at home, as there were 5 out of the 6 Nepean teams playing in this tournament with Richmond, Almonte and Kanata.

After playing a really bad lst game against Richmond Royals on Saturday maybe because we were running late, the coach running around to pick part of the team up, maybe that is why our game was off - we were not able to get the puck out of our zone and the numerous penalties that we took; a bunch of injuries, a broken thumb, puck to ankle, an injured hand that wasn't able to hold the stick to shoot their normal way, we went on to play our second game against Nepean and we played a really good game, we had our very own Volchanev blocking shots - minus a suspension, we went on to the Final B side game where the Warriors came out CHAMPIONs.

It is amazing what happens when our players can shoot to the net, pass the puck and stay out of the penalty box. A job very well done by everyone, congratulations to the Nepean Warriors, the only Nepean Team that actually came out the final winners.

The Nepean Stallions (NMA-D) finished their day as finalists on the A-Side, narrowly missing out in overtime to the host team. Good Effort by all Nepean Teams !

Out of town visitors

As a kick off to the Midget A House Tournament, the Nepean Midget A "Stallions" played host to the Frobisher Bay "Icebreakers" in an exhibition game on Jan.10, 2008. It was a display of strength & speed on both sides with lots of end to end play. The fans in the stands had a great time.

To wind up the weekend of games, a selected group of players & coaches from all the participating teams in the tournament played an ALL-STAR game that resulted in a shoot out finish. Another Nepean Tournament Win !

The Carleton Place Midget A Tournament, held on Saturday the 5th of Jan 08, "A" side was won by Nepean Midget A Team A.

Nepean MAA vs. Letrim   we won 3-2 (shootout) 11am
Nepean MAA vs. Kanata   we won 2-0                 4pm
Nepean MAA vs. Richmond we won 4-1                6pm

I find it interesting that we got consistently better, winning the first game by one goal, the second game by two, and the third game by three.

Our goal tending was outstanding throughout the day and especially in the last game, it frustrated the Richmond team constantly. Midway thru the third, with Richmond on the power play, the momentum looked like it was swinging their way, when Brenden Lee scored a shorthanded goal for us while sliding on his backside, after being hauled down by a Richmond defenseman. That was the turning point, they boys kept the pressure on for the win.

It was a great day, where the guys grew as a team, and was able travel home with their spirits high.

Nepean Sweep in Richmond !

The NMHA, Midget A "Warriors" team, came on top to the B side Championship of the Richmond-Munster 2007 Midget A Tournament that was held December 27.
The team took on Orleans Eagles with a 6-2 victory. Then at noon tied 3-3 with hometown Richmond Royals. The Warriors final game was against our own Midget A, Team C team winning 4-2. Another positive note was that last game the team didn’t take any penalties. What a change! Good Work Warriors. The team really put their best effort out there and was a successful day. It was quite the morale booster.

NMHA Holiday Season Win in Richmond

The NMHA , Midget A "Stallions" swept their way to the A-Side Championship of the Richmond-Munster 2007 Midget A Tournament .
The team took on the hometown Richmond Royals in their first round and won the game 5-2. In the early afternoon the Stallions shut out the Leitrim Hawks with a 4-0 victory, facing in the final challenge an also undefeated Stittsville team in their most intense game of the day. The Nepean team took an early lead, but were met with match tying goals by the tenacious Redmen and for the longest time, the fans had to endure end-to-end play until we were rewarded with the tiebreaker and then go-ahead goal to clinch the win late in the third , 4-2.

CONGRATULATIONS to the players & coaching staff of the Nepean "Stallions" !
